Who am I?

A bit about me…

some time in 2005?

I’ve been meaning to create a better page about my background, credentials and biases (as Doug Johnson has so emphatically requested!), but while it may take a while for me to create something I really like (being quite a novice blogger and an absolute beginner at webpage design), let’s just share this draft with those who do me the favour of reading my postings and sharing their knowledge with me:
Gladys
Name: Gladys Baya

  • Place of birth: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Year of birth:1968

Languages: Spanish, English; can read a little Portuguese and French.

Occupation: EFL teacher (I’ve taught all ages - from kindergarteners to seniors- and nearly all levels - from Beginner to CAE- in several teaching contexts - f2f: schools, language schools, companies, one-to-one, at home and online teaching ) and teacher educator (I teach subjects in the area of Methodology, and online project work integration into the curriculum for TELAR and IEARN).

I’ve graduated from “Profesorado Nacional de Inglés ‘Joaquín V. González’”, and there specialized in “Teaching Methodologies”. For a long time, I’ve been working on a thesis on the use of word-processors (esp. Microsoft Word(R)) in the teaching and learning of process writing, and I hope to have it ready in a couple of months at the most. I’m really keen on integrating technologies into the EFL classroom, for I feel they can be up to Knowles’s suggestion that “the computer should be able to do something that the teacher cannot and give learners a richer learning experience” (my bolds; as cited by Beatty 2003:195).

I’ve been a member of my local Computers SIG since 2001, and a Webhead since 2005. I’ve started this blog much in the same way as I’ve been presenting at national conferences and congresses for a couple of years: in an attempt to reflect upon my learning on this area of interest, and share with whoever is also interested in joining colleagues for mutual enrichment.

I’m really keen on online learning, and have taken several online courses by now, on the use of Microsoft products, integration of new technologies and online project work into the English classroom, the Lexical Approach, and web course design. I’m considering doing a master at college on educational technologies, but guess that’ll have to wait until 2007, since my 2 little daughters still demand too much of my time for that…

My home page: http://360.yahoo.com/gladysbaya (only thing I could build before learning anything about Webpage design ;)!)

My Yahoo ID: gladysbaya

Hope that’s enough about me for a start!
